Invitation Letter for the Special Issue in Mesopotamian Journal of Arabic Language Studies

Dear Esteemed Scholars and Researchers,

The Mesopotamian Journal of Arabic Language Studies is honored to announce an upcoming special issue centered on the theme: "Vernacularism in Linguistics, Identity, Culture, and Literature." This issue seeks to highlight and celebrate the diverse and rich vernacular traditions within the Arabic-speaking world, offering an interdisciplinary exploration of their role in shaping linguistic, cultural, and literary landscapes.

We cordially invite you to submit your scholarly work to this special issue, which aims to serve as a platform for innovative research and critical analyses of vernacularism. Contributions may explore vernacularism as a creative tendency, a research methodology, and an ideological stance challenging cultural hegemony and advocating for cultural diversity.

Scope of Topics

  • The integration of vernacular elements, and themes in modern Arabic literature and art: Explore how vernacular forms are reshaping literary and artistic expressions.
  • Comparative studies of Arabic dialects and their cultural significance: Highlight the linguistic richness and sociocultural impact of Arabic dialects across regions.
  • Vernacularism as a means of preserving endangered languages and cultures: Investigate its role in safeguarding and revitalizing marginalized languages and traditions.
  • Critical discourse analysis of vernacular forms in Arabic media and literature: Analyze how vernacular expressions are used to resist, reflect, or reinforce societal narratives.
  • Historical and sociolinguistic perspectives on vernacular expressions: Examine how vernacular traditions have evolved and their relevance to identity formation.
  • Vernacularism in education and policy-making: Discuss how vernacular languages and traditions can be integrated into educational curricula and policy frameworks.
